Convert your Instagram-exported followers data to CSV

When you export a copy of your information from Instagram (Settings, then Accounts Center, then Export your information), your download is usually a zip. Follower and following lists show up as .json files, often in a connections folder. Upload those here to get one CSV for Excel, Google Sheets, or Numbers.

Everything runs in your browser. Your files are not sent to our servers.

Convert your files

Open the connections folder from your Instagram export, then select the .json files for followers or following (for example followers_1.json). If Instagram split the list across several files, select them all at once. We'll merge them and remove duplicate usernames where we can.

Select one or more .json files from the connections folder (you can choose several in the file picker at once).

Privacy: Processing happens only in your browser. We don't upload your export.

How to get your data from Instagram

Instagram walks you through this in Accounts Center (the same flow Meta documents as review and export a copy of your information). On phone or web, the path looks like this:

  1. Open Settings (or Settings and privacy).
  2. Open Accounts Center, then Your information and permissions.
  3. Tap Export your information, then Create export.
  4. Choose your Instagram profile and continue.
  5. Pick Export to device if you want a file you can download (as opposed to sending data to another service).
  6. Set the format to JSON and include the categories you need (for followers or following, include the related connection or follower options when the form lists them).
  7. Tap Start export. When Meta says the file is ready, open Export your information again and download it from Available downloads, then unzip it.

Exact labels and timing can change. For the official steps and details, see Meta’s article Review and export a copy of your Instagram information.

Which files should I upload?

After you unzip Instagram's download, you'll usually see either:

  • A connections folder at the top level, or
  • A main folder that contains connections alongside other folders (such as your_instagram_activity). In that case, use the JSON files inside connections.

Use the .json files, not the HTML versions. Following lists (e.g. following.json) work the same way as followers.

Common questions

Using this tool with your Instagram data download.

CSV opens directly in Excel and Sheets, is easy to import into CRMs and databases, and keeps this tool simple and fast. You can “Save As” Excel inside your spreadsheet app if you need .xlsx.
No. Your files are read and converted only in your browser; they aren't uploaded to IGdm or stored on our servers.
Usually that means an HTML file instead of JSON, or a JSON file from the wrong folder. Use the .json files inside connections (such as followers_1.json or following.json), and make sure you picked JSON when you created the export in Export your information.
